Blurb: “THE PORTABLE James Joyce

Edited by HARRY LEVIN

Four of the six books on which the astonishing reputation of James Joyce is founded are reprinted here in their entirety. A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, his classic autobiographical novel, has been reset in the new definitive text, corrected from the Dublin holograph in 1964. The others are Collected Poems (including Chamber Music), plus two "uncollected" ones; Exiles, his only drama; and Dubliners, his volume of short stories. In addition, there is a generous sampling from Ulysses and Finnegans Wake, including the famous "Anna Livia Plurabelle" episode. Professor Levin has provided a reappraisal of Joyce, a preface to each of the works, and a bibliography.

"... a volume that makes Joyce easily available, in compact form, to peripatetic Joyceans."

-LEON EDEL

"... Mr. Levin, who is one of our wisest and most interesting authorities on Joyce, has written an excellent introduction and some valuable notes."

-RICHARD WATTS, JR., New York Times Book Review
