Blurb: “A terrifying novel of the darkness
in the human heart-and the darkness that waits where least expected.
Oceantide, New Jersey is a long, narrow town that puffs like a blowfish on Memorial Day weekend and doesn't take another clean breath until Labor Day is gone.
It's August now, late August. Stump Harragan's amusement pier is in full swing. But the old pier, the one that's been in disuse for years, is not.
It burned ten days ago.
Devin Graham can still smell the charred timbers.
He'd taken pictures of the blaze.
He didn't know then that young Julie Eller had died in the fire.
He doesn't know that when he goes home tonight his answering machine will have a message from Julie: mr. graham i want my picture back...
Out on the beach tonight are three of Devin's friends, kids who'll be leaving for college in a week or two: Tony Ricarro, pretty Kelly Albertson, and Tony's best friend, Mike Nathan.
Tony looks toward the water, and freezes. A woman is standing there. A tall woman. Long hair. He can't be seeing her; the moon is on its way down.
"Tony," she says, "I want to see you."
These things are only the beginning. Something awful is happening in Oceantide-something that leaves no one untouched, not Stump Harragan, not Prayerful Mary, not Police Sergeant Marty Kilmer-and certainly not Devin's girlfriend Gayle.
The burnt pier is the center. Devin and Gayle.
Mike, Kelly, and Tony must enter it for the answers But Julie isn't the only thing in there…..“
