Blurb: “TRANSLATED BY REX WARNER

A History of My Times, which opens with the final defeat of Athens at the hands of Lysander, takes up the story of the Peloponnesian War at the point at which Thucydides broke off. Xenophon, an exile, was neither such a perfect historian nor such a stalwart Athenian as Thucydides, and his strangely sentimental and uncritical regard for Sparta seemed to blind him to the subsequent recovery made by Athens. Nevertheless his simple, soldierly record of the Spartan and Theban hegemonies, culminating in the indecisive battle of Mantinea (362 B.C.), does underline the profound effects of the tragic Peloponnesian War.

The cover shows a detail of the Alexander Mosaic from the House of the Faun, Pompeii, in the Museo Nationale, Naples (Snark International)”
